The Fangirl Chronicles is an ongoing series where we like to showcase female characters from television, movies, and comics and underrepresented characters we would love to see more of. This installment features Marvel’s Inhuman Princess, Crystal!
Crystal, a.k.a. The People’s Princess (Marvel)
Crystalia Amaquelin-Maximoff is a royal Inhuman first seen in the Fantastic Four comic book series back in the 1960’s. A long-time friend of the Fantastic Four and temporary member, Crystal was a fixture in the group until her return to Attilan, home of the Inhumans. Crystal also spent time fighting alongside the Avengers, but ultimately her allegiance to the Inhumans pitted her against both S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Mighty Avengers. Following Silent War friction, the invasion of Attilan by the Skrulls turned Crystal and her family’s attention to the Kree in hopes of an alliance. A betrothal to Ronan the Accuser was the price she had to pay for such an alliance; but the alliance was ultimately strengthened through Crystal’s unifying of the Kree people and led to her nickname, “the people’s princess.”
Why She is Awesome
Crystal has always been portrayed as an extremely likable character; she is compassionate, loyal, and extremely intelligent. She can manipulate the elements- summoning wind, earthquakes, fires, and even water from the sky. As an Inhuman, she possesses improved strength, speed, and dexterity and has been trained in combat. Crystal can even psionically control electricity. She’s an all around bad-ass.
Where She Belongs
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., would be a fantastic home to Crystal, that is unless the Inhumans movie, set to release in 2019 now, plans to put her front and center. There’s going to be a big gap in the upcoming S.H.I.E.L.D. season. With Daisy “gone rogue” and the defeat of Hive, they cannot just let the Inhuman story-line sit on the back burner until then; and creating a scenario where the entire season follows Daisy as the new Big Bad is not appealing. Not appealing at all. Crystal is an awesome character, with super cool Inhuman abilities. With Daisy out, May in a perpetual bad mood, and Simmons forever in the lab, we need a strong, compassionate, super lady to change the dynamic. I’m not saying she needs to join S.H.I.E.L.D., but it would be cool to show the viewers a leader type character for the Inhumans, since Daisy was set up to be something of the sort and has officially flown the coop.
What do you think about seeing Crystal join the Inhumans in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D?
